Round Robin & Random

Postby marce » Sun Aug 30, 2009 2:38 pm

Hi David. Im looking to set-up a sfz file with staccato samples for the same note-same velocity. I have cycled some of them in the past using the "lorand-hirand" opcode.
Im wondering myself if there any better-faster way to do this in ARIA, or this is the best way to say ARIA it pick randomly samples assigned to the same note/same velocity?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

lorand/horand is the only available opcode to do so.

Thanks your answer. If you allow me, i would like to suggest some better method for the future. With the lorand-hirand method you need to assign to each key of the same note a different value between 0-1. Would be more faster just group the same note/velocity samples and then add some opcode like "random=on" or so.

Best Regards.

lorand/hirand allows for more than random through a series of samples.

you can also change the relative chances of each sample to play.
3% this file, 94%that file, etc.

also you could have overlaps in ranges
sample1 plays between 0 and 50%
sample2 plays between 25 and 50%
sample3 plays between 50 and 100%.

So depending on your chances you would have either 1 or two samples playing at once.

What you are asking is more a GUI editor request than spec request,
since its a shortcut, not a feature

Thanks the information David. I see that lo-hi random is more powerfull... it takes a little more editing maybe.

Best Regards.
