Intellivision sports cheering

Postby NightSprinter » Fri Mar 12, 2010 2:31 pm

Since the INTV was one of those consoles I liked a lot growing up, the sound effects of the crowd cheering in the various sports game really stuck to me. I haven't figured the wave sequencer setup yet for the whistling sound, but I do have two of the three effects available for use.

[Edit] I forgot to mention Cheering2 is best done with a two-key "chord". I'll need to tweak the wave sequencer so it automatically does that.

you mean something like:

:)

This was rendered using my new AY emulator directly in Bidule. Its a complex composite thing.
noise and tones all doing different stuff. Would be relatively tricky to sequence, but not impossible.

chipsounds currently doesn't emulate TONE&NOISE waveforms, but this new code does, its just a bit rough for now.

That's EXACTLY what I'm working on in three separate instrument presets. Genius, as always David. If I can figure out the whistle part, then we'll have that for now before the new AY emulation can be implemented.

By the way, I think I figured out how the sound for Star Strike (the missile launching) and PBA Bowling (rolling the ball down the lane) works so far. I know I'll need to use Sync Buzzer for it.

David, would you have any suggestions as to what the wave sequencer would look like for just the whistling sound effect?

The render i made was not form the wave sequencer but from a "bare playback" of the commands that are sent to the chip. So in order to transform that to MIDI/WaveSeq i would have to work much harder :)

Hmm. But to get the whistle sound by itself as it stands for Chipsounds, any suggestion on what to enter into the sequencer?

Try messing with the pitch evvelope, and retrigger the same voice to restart it, whislte sounds like lots of frequency sweeps..

More than that, id have to do the preset myself :)
