linux/wine compatibility

Postby zeograd » Mon Sep 21, 2015 9:29 am

thanks for the recent free release of alterEgo.
As hinted in the topic, I was trying to get it to work under linux but when emulating the standalone or VST versions, I am unable to enable any bank. My guess is that drag'n dropping a bank .xml triggers an external program to perform the registry (hence the request for admin password) and this way of doing isn't supported in wine.

Could we expect to either have at some point :
- a native linux version of alterEgo (and other aria engine based programs) ?
- or a wine friendly version of alterEgo ?
- or manual instructions for registering a bank (as alternative to drag'n dropping the bank config .xml into the main window) ?

Thank you in advance,

A native linux version is not in the plans for now.
Usually our apps were pretty much Wine compatible (we don't try to break it), though this is the second notice we have about it.
I will add bank import straight into the UI as an "import bank button"

In the mean time if you know how to hack the Wine registry these are the keys required for the Daisy
bank to work (essentially what the app does after a bank.xml file been dragged on)

C:/trunk/AriaProducts is my install path, of course you would have to change this

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Plogue Art et Technologie, Inc\Aria\Products\2400]
"vendor"="Plogue Art et Technologie, Inc"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Plogue Art et Technologie, Inc\Daisy]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Plogue Art et Technologie, Inc\Daisy\Banks]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Plogue Art et Technologie, Inc\Daisy\Banks\Daisy]

Thank you David for your fast answer.
I apologize for the delay but I expected a mail notification in case of answer, which didn't arrive.

Your regedit extract indeed made the trick. I can now run alterego under linux (via the carla wine bridge for those interested in the setup).
I just had a tiny issue in that having spaces in the path to the bank (which was living in c:\Program files\...) didn't worked. I moved the bank into a space-less path and everything worked flawlessly.

Thanks again,
best regards
